You Are Not World-Ready If...

Your application is not font independent

When dealing with fonts in your application:

  • Do not hard code font face names
  • Do not assume a given font is already installed
  • Do not assume selected font supports the desired script

The dialog box below displays "boxes" because the application has hard-coded a font that doesn't support Korean characters:

Other signs of non-font independency are vertical bars "|" , white spaces where they are not supposed to be, or characters and symbols that do not belong to the expected display language (like gibberish-accented characters instead of Japanese Kanji).
