Adding Support for Page Includes in Expression Web

Author: Pat Geary

Web site:

Any time you have a lot of repeated content in a website - things like page headers, page footers and navigation menus or even areas of content - you have several options in Expression Web for efficiently maintaining those sections and keeping them consistent across your pages. You can use Dynamic Web Templates, Master Pages, and even FrontPage-style Page Includes, the focus of this article.

In FrontPage, Page Includes are provided in the Insert Web Component dialog box:

The Page Includes command isn’t part of the default menu bar in Expression Web 2, but you can easily add the command to the menu bar by using the Customize dialog box.

  1. Go to the Tools menu and select Customize.

  2. In the Customize dialog box, select the Commands tab, select the Insert category in the column on the left, and in the column on the right, scroll down to the bottom of the list where the Include Page command appears.

  3. Left-click the Include Page command and drag it to the Insert menu at the top of the Expression Web program and release the command wherever you want it to appear on the menu.

  4. Now you insert Page Includes into your pages in Expression Web by selecting Insert > Include Page.
