Managing SQL Server Services

Visual Studio Team System Team Foundation Server is built on three components of SQL Server. Team Foundation Server uses:

  • SQL Server databases to store operational information about individual components and the data warehouse.

  • SQL Server Analysis Services to aggregate and summarize the data in the warehouse.

  • SQL Server Reporting Services to generate and store reports about team projects.

As a Team Foundation administrator, you must perform no special duties or follow special instructions to manage SQL Server services for Team Foundation Server. You must make sure that the SQL Server services are available and operating correctly according to the online documentation for each component.

Important noteImportant Note:

Even if you are logged on with administrative credentials, you might not be able to access Web sites and tools for SQL Server on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 or Windows Vista unless you add those sites as Trusted Sites in Internet Explorer or start Internet Explorer as an administrator. To start Internet Explorer as an administrator, click Start, click All Programs, right-click Internet Explorer, and then click Run as administrator. For more information, see the Microsoft Web site.
