Add Database Reference Dialog Box

Use this dialog box to add a database reference to your database project.

To access this dialog box, right-click the Database Reference node in SolutionExplorer, then choose New Database Reference on the shortcut menu.

Note

The New Database Reference shortcut menu is only available for a database project. If all of the existing database connections have already been added as references, or there is no data connection in Server Explorer, the Connection Properties dialog box is displayed (instead of the Add Database Reference dialog box) so that you can define a new connection.

The Add Database Reference dialog box lists the current references for the project and all of the other database connections available in Server Explorer. Each line describes one database reference or one connection. To add a database reference to your database project, select the appropriate list item and click OK.

Note

Your computer might show different names or locations for some of the Visual Studio user interface elements in the following instructions. The Visual Studio edition that you have and the settings that you use determine these elements. For more information, see Visual Studio Settings.

  • Add Reference Button
If you click Add Reference, the Connection Properties dialog box appears so that you can define another database connection.
