Force_Dir Initialization Variable

Visual Studio 2005

Specifies Yes (default) to customize the Dir initialization variable for several purposes other than just specification of the working folder for a project. This variable specifies No if you want to limit use of the Dir variable to specification of the working folder.

Force_Dir = {Yes|No}

Setting this variable to Yes allows you to use the Dir initialization variable for specification of the working folder, but also to use it in these circumstances:

  1. When using the Get or Checkout command on the command line, a database file is copied into the current folder. The Yes setting for Force_Dir copies the file into the working folder for the project even if that is not the current folder.

  2. A recursive get operation for a project creates a subfolder for each subproject. The Yes setting for Force_Dir copies subprojects into their own working folders instead of subfolders under the project folder.

You can set this variable in your Ss.ini file directly or in Visual SourceSafe Explorer. In Visual SourceSafe Explorer, use the SourceSafe Options dialog box, Command Line Options tab. Select the Assume working folder based on current project check box to set this variable to Yes.

Specifies that the Dir initialization variable is used for all the circumstances listed above:

Force_Dir = Yes
