Compiler Warning (level 2) CS1668

Error Message

Invalid search path 'path' specified in 'path string' -- 'system error message'

The path supplied to /lib at the command line was not valid, or a path in the LIB environment variable is invalid. Check the path used to verify that it exists and is accessible. The error message in single quotes is the error returned from the operating system.

One known cause of this error is when Visual Studio .NET 2002 or Visual Studio .NET 2003 are uninstalled from a machine that also has Visual Studio 2005 installed. Use the following procedure to fix the error:

  1. Right-click My Computer and then click Properties.

  2. Click the Advanced tab and then click Environment Variables.

  3. Click the LIB entry in the top pane and make sure it points to the v2.0 lib files.

If you installed Visual Studio 2005 to the default location, the full path is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\SDK\v2.0\Lib.
