PasswordRecovery.MembershipProvider Property

Note: This property is new in the .NET Framework version 2.0.

Gets or sets the membership provider used to look up user information.

Namespace: System.Web.UI.WebControls
Assembly: System.Web (in system.web.dll)

[ThemeableAttribute(false)]
public virtual string MembershipProvider { get; set; }
/** @property */
public String get_MembershipProvider ()

/** @property */
public void set_MembershipProvider (String value)

public function get MembershipProvider () : String

public function set MembershipProvider (value : String)

Property Value

The membership provider used to look up user information. The default value is Empty.

The MembershipProvider property identifies the membership provider used to verify user information entered in the PasswordRecovery control.

Membership providers are defined in the Web.config file in the <membership> section.

Setting the MembershipProvider property will change the provider used. If you do not set the MembershipProvider property, it will always return Empty.

This property cannot be set by themes or style sheet themes. For more information, see ThemeableAttribute and ASP.NET Themes and Skins Overview.

The following code example uses the VerifyingUser event to change the MembershipProvider property.

<%@ page language="C#" %>

<script runat="server">

    void PasswordRecovery1_VerifyingUser(Object sender, System.Web.UI.WebControls.LoginCancelEventArgs e)
    {
	      DropDownList provider = ((DropDownList)PasswordRecovery1.FindControl("LoginProvider"));

        PasswordRecovery1.MembershipProvider = provider.SelectedValue;
        if (PasswordRecovery1.MembershipProvider != "Default")
        {
          PasswordRecovery1.UserName = String.Format("{0}\\{1}",
            PasswordRecovery1.MembershipProvider, PasswordRecovery1.UserName);
        }

    }

    void PasswordRecovery1_VerifyingAnswer(Object sender, System.Web.UI.WebControls.LoginCancelEventArgs e)
    {
        PasswordRecovery1.UserName = String.Format("{0}\\{1}",
          PasswordRecovery1.MembershipProvider, PasswordRecovery1.UserName);
    }

</script>
