Returns a programmatic identifier (ProgID) for the specified type.

The ProgID of the specified type.

The type parameter is not a class that can be create by COM. The class must be public, have a public default constructor, and be COM visible.


The type parameter is a null reference (Nothing in Visual Basic).

If the type has a ProgID in the metadata, then it is returned. Otherwise a ProgID is generated based on the fully qualified name of the type.


This method uses SecurityAction.LinkDemand to prevent it from being called from untrusted code; only the immediate caller is required to have SecurityPermissionAttribute.UnmanagedCode permission. If your code can be called from partially trusted code, do not pass user input to Marshal class methods without validation.
