Prerequisites for Creating a Component Definition File
For every component that you want to include in the component definition file, you must identify the following:
- Component application files and their registry entries
- Required support files
- Dependencies or conflicts with other components or capabilities
After determining where you want to list the capabilities and components in the Target Designer All Nodes pane, you can create a new component definition file.
Tip
- You can use your development system to determine the relevant files and registry entries for a component by using the following process:
- Make screen shots of your development system registry and files.
- Install the component on your development system, and then make another set of screen shots.
- Compare the two sets of screen shots for changes, and then use the information to write your component definition file.
- For information on how to install your component, see MSDN Library on CD or this Microsoft Web site.
