How to: View Team Foundation Server Performance Counters

Team Foundation Server provides performance counters that let you view real-time data for the performance of Team Foundation Server. This topic discusses how to access these counters and view the data they make available. For more information about available performance counters, see Monitoring Performance.

Required Permissions

To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Administrators group on the Team Foundation application-tier and data-tier servers. For more information, see Team Foundation Server Permissions.

To view Team Foundation Server performance counters

  1. Click Start, click Administrative Tools, and then click Performance to open the Performance window.

  2. In the right pane of the Performance window, click + to open the Add Counters window.

  3. In the Performance object box, select the appropriate Team Foundation Server performance counter set. For example, you might select TFS Services, TFS Proxy Server, TFS Version Control, or TFS WorkItem Tracking.

  4. In the left list, select the appropriate counter. In the right list, select the appropriate instance, and then click Add.

    The performance counter is added to the System Monitor.
