How to: Start Visual SourceSafe Explorer from the Command Line

Visual Studio 2005

You can use the SSEXP utility to start the Visual SourceSafe Explorer program for a specified database. For details of this utility, see SSEXP Utility.

To start Visual SourceSafe Explorer from the command line:

  1. On your desktop, click Start, then Run.

  2. Type "CMD", and then click OK.

  3. Type "<drive>:", substituting the letter for the drive on which Visual SourceSafe is installed, and then press ENTER.

  4. Use the CD command to navigate to the directory for the Visual SourceSafe installation, and then press ENTER.

  5. If a database has never been opened before, type "ssexp –S<path>, substituting the local or UNC path to your Srcsafe.ini file. If a database has been opened previously, you only need to type "ssexp".
