Standard Shell Overview (Windows Embedded CE 6.0)

1/5/2010

This topic describes the Windows Embedded CE Standard Shell, also known as the Enterprise Terminal shell.

Standard Shell

The Windows Embedded CE Standard Shell is based on the Windows-based desktop and resembles the shell on Windows-based desktop operating systems. It includes a desktop with program icons, a Start menu, a taskbar, and a system notification area.

At startup time, the Windows Embedded CE Standard Shell is displayed on the screen. It contains the CETSC icon on the desktop. The user must select the CETSC icon to connect to a remote server. The user input is saved in an .rdp file.

For more information, see Terminal Services Client Configuration through the .rdp File.

Shell Catalog Item

The Windows Embedded CE Standard Shell, SYSGEN_STANDARDSHELL, is a required Catalog item when the Enterprise Terminal Design Template is selected as the starting point for an OS design.
