The ASP.NET 2.0 component contains a unified Web application platform that provides the services necessary to build and deploy enterprise-class Web applications. This component offers a new programming model and infrastructure for more secure, scalable, and stable applications that can target any browser or device.

This component is part of the Microsoft® .NET Framework, a computing environment that simplifies application development in the highly distributed environment of the Internet. The .NET Framework includes the common language runtime, which provides core services such as memory management, thread management, and increased code security. The .NET Framework also includes the .NET Framework class library. The .NET Framework class library is a comprehensive, object-oriented collection of types that developers can use to create applications.


This component includes the ASPNET_State.exe service, which functions as an out-of-process session state server for ASP.NET 2.0 applications. Using this service is optional. In-process session state management is the default.

Associated Components

This component handles requests to Internet Information Services (IIS) for file extensions that are mapped to the aspnet_isapi.dll ISAPI extension. This component requires the IIS Web Server component to be installed to enable this functionality. This component also requires the .NET Framework 2.0 component to be installed.

Acceptable values are any whole number between 0 and 65535. Letters, symbols, and negative numbers are nto allowed.
Enable remote connections to the ASP .NET State serviceNot selectedThis setting indicates whether or not the ASP .NET State Service accepts remote connection requests. For security the State Service is installed by default to only allow connections from a website running on the same machine.
Do not copy help files for this componentNot selectedSelect this option to suppress the inclusion of help files (*.hlp, *.chm, and *.cnt) for this component. This reduces the size of the resulting run-time image but some components may not operate correctly without their corresponding help files.
Enable multilanguage user interface for this componentSelectedSelect this option to enable multilanguage user interface (MUI) support for this component (if supported). Actual language support depends on the presence of additional language support components.
