Background Intelligent Transfer Service
The Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) component provides a set of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to create background, restartable transfers to and from Web servers. The BITS component provides a network-friendly file transfer infrastructure which is primarily used for system and application updates.
This component includes the BITS system service, which exposes a set of Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM) APIs.
The BITS component is used by various services and applications, including Windows Update and Instant Messenger, for transferring files in the background.
In Windows XP SP1, this component requires the WinHttp component.
There are no configurable settings for this component.
