Device Update Agent
The Device Update Agent component provides the Device Update Agent (DUA) service. DUA is launched automatically at boot time and allows system administrators and users to perform a number of remote maintenance and administration tasks.
This component provides the Device Update Agent service.

The following table shows the configurable settings for this component.
- or -
|Local system||Specifies the account permissions to use when Device Update Agent updates the device.|
|Run on start||On||Configures Device Update Agent to poll immediately on system startup.|
|Require HTTP support||Off||Specifies whether Device Update Agent retrieves updates from a remote Web server. HTTP support is required for remote polling and for HTTPGET requests. To poll a Web server, select this check box. The default setting of Off is recommended to poll a media device.|
|Poll interval||0 seconds||Specifies the interval, in seconds, between polls.|
|Poll jitter||Off||Specifies that polling will occur randomly within the polling interval. To poll a Web server, select this check box. The default setting of Off is recommended to poll a media device.|
|Working directory||None||Specifies a temporary storage directory that Device Update Agent uses when it updates a run-time image. The recommended location is C:\DUA.|
|Expand working directory using the environment on the embedded device||On||Specifies whether to use environment variables in the command file path.|
|Poll time and day||Every hour, every day||Specifies the days and times when Device Update Agent polls for updates. Set this value by clearing the checkbox for each hour of each day when you do not want polling to occur.|
|Select the command path type||Local||Specifies whether to use a local or remote system directory or a remote Web server to poll for updates. Choose one of Local or Remote using HTTP.|
|Complete path to the command file, including file name and extension||None||Specifies the complete path that Device Update Agent polls, for example, C:\UpdateFolder\commands.dup. This field must be specified.|
|Expand command file path using the environment on the embedded device||On||Specifies whether to use environment variables in the command file path.|
Because Device Update Agent uses a pull mechanism to retrieve updates, the complete path to the device update program must be specified in the command file setting. If this path is not specified, your run-time image will not build.
Device Update Agent uses simple command sequences that are read from a file. The registry is configured with the location from which DUA gets the command file. Copy the command file to the location monitored by the Device Update Agent service. If the device running the Device Update Agent is connected to a network, the Device Update Agent can download additional command files. The Device Update Agent is configured by using the system registry. All configuration parameters are located in the HKLM\SYSTEM\CCS\SERVICES\DUAgent\Parameters\Config registry key.
