How to: Check Items in to the Version Control System

When you have finished working, you must check objects back into the version control system.

To check an object into the version control system

  1. In the Application Object Tree (AOT), right-click the object that you checked out, and then click Check In.

    or

From the Microsoft Dynamics AX menu, click Tools, point to Development tools, point to Version control, point to Pending objects, and then click Check In.

    or

    Press ALT+I.

    or

Click the Check In button located at the top of the AOT.

  2. Write a check-in description in the Description box that describes the changes you have made.

  3. If you want to remove some of the items from the check-in list, select them and press ALT + F9.

  4. If you want to select all or none of the items for check-in, click the All or None button.

  5. Press OK.

If you have not changed an object, but want to check it back in, or if you do not want to check in your changes, you can select Undo check out on the Pending objects form.

NoteNote

It is a Best Practice error Error icon if you try to check in an object that refers to an object that is not in the version control system. You can refer to new objects that have been created in the same check-in list.

When you create a new object or change an existing one, certain checks are run before you can check it into the version control system. If you get errors during check-in, it may be because your object has failed one of these checks.

The level of checking is usually set up by an administrator. Checks are specified in the Best practice settings section of the General tab, and on the Object rules tab of the System settings form.

To open the System settings form

  • From the Microsoft Dynamics AX menu, click Tools, point to Developer tools, point to Version control, point to Setup, and then click System settings.
