Creating a Component

When you create a component manually, you specify its properties, add to it all of the necessary files, registry data, custom resources, dependencies, and group memberships, and save it in an .sld file.

To create a component

  1. In Component Designer, open the .sld file or create a new one.

  2. In the SLD browser in the left pane, expand the platform node.

  3. Right-click the Components folder and choose Add Component.

The properties of the component are displayed in the details pane. For more information, see Component Properties in Component Designer.

  4. In the appropriate text boxes, type the common properties of the component, including name, version number, owners, authors, vendor, copyright, and description.

  5. Specify additional properties for the component, such as its file repository, prototype component, Help file, and visibility.

  6. To add extended properties to the component, choose Advanced.

    For information, see Extended Properties.

  7. Save the .sld file.

  8. To add files, registry data, dependencies, or custom resources to this component, in the SLD browser, expand the node for this component, right-click the appropriate subnode, and choose Add.

For more information, see Components in Component Designer.
