Add or Edit a Service

Platí pro: Windows SBS 2003

Provide the information for the additional service that you want to allow through the firewall.

Item Description

Service name

Type an easily recognized name for the service.

Protocol

Type the protocol to use when connecting to the port number. You can use either Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and User Datagram Protocol (UDP).

TCP and UDP may use the same port number in certain instances. For more information about UDP and TCP, click Start, and then click Help and Support.

Port

Type the number of the port used by the service. For example, http:// connections use TCP port 80.

Note

  • For a list of well-known port numbers, open the systemroot\System32\Drivers\Etc\Services file in Notepad. Or, on a computer with Internet access, see Port Numbers on the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority Web site:

    https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=3857

Web addresses can change, so you might be unable to connect to the Web site mentioned here.

Notes

  • If you are using Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2004 as your firewall, you must also provide the direction for the service. In Direction, click the drop-down list, and then select a direction. The available directions for each protocol are:

    Protocol Directions

    User Datagram Protocol (UDP)

    Receive Only

    Send Only

    Receive Send

    Send Receive

    Transmission Control Protocol (TCP)

    Inbound

    Outbound

  • When you edit a service, only the protocol or port number can be modified. If you want to modify the service name, you must remove the service, and then add a new service.
