Install a WINS server

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 8 Beta

To install a WINS server

  1. Open Windows Components Wizard.

  2. Under Components, scroll to and click Networking Services.

  3. Click Details.

  4. Under Subcomponents of Networking Services, click Windows Internet Name Service (WINS), click OK, and then click Next.

  5. If prompted, type the full path to the Windows Server 2003 distribution files and click Continue.

    Required files are copied to your hard disk, and server software can be used after restarting the system.

Notes

  • To open the Windows Components Wizard, click Start, click Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove programs, and then click Add/Remove Windows Components.

  • It is strongly recommended that you manually configure the computer to use a static IP address.
