The Phone team says "Hello?"

I'd like to share a great photo of the Windows Mobile Phone team enjoying a much needed day off. These guys (and gals) are responsible for Smart Dial, Call History, Speed Dial, Call Progress, Voicemail, Wireless Manager and a whole bunch of phone UI and APIs. They're all hard at work on building a great phone + connectivity experience for the next version of Windows Mobile. (The smiles on their faces are probably indicative of some great new features they've just wrapped up).

So there you have it, folks - your typical Microsoft feature team consisting of dev, test and PM on a hot summer day. I'll try and post pictures of other teams bringing you Windows Mobile. In the mean time, feel free to share comments with the team but please keep it courteous.

Tech*Ed 2008 Developer Recap

Other than Bumpy (and late) flights in and out of Orlando, Tech*Ed 2008 Developer was a fantastic experience for me. 

While I have been to at least 4 Tech*Ed Events in the past 7 years, this one was special because we had a huge Mobility Focus at this Event.

We had a device bar showing off 23 of the newest Windows Mobile 6.1 phones and ruggedized devices plus we had a surprise showing of the new HTC Touch Diamond.  We had demo stations where our expert staff could take developers on deep dives of Silverlight for Mobile, the Mobile Line of Business Accelerator 2008, and Visual Studio 2008 for Devices.

The overall developer enragement for us was much higher that the MEDC Events we have been used to in the past. It was really exciting to see so many developers coming up to take a sneak peak at some of the very cool Silverlight for mobile early prototypes that we were showing at the Booth. And Loke as usual did a fantastic job with the 2 sessions he delivered around Silverlight for mobile.

 

 

 

 

imageIn addition to the few Applications we had Shown and MIX08 earlier this year (Weatherbug and MixR) we also had a proof of concept (POC) Silverlight for mobile app for John L. Scott Real Estate developed by Microsoft partner, Dr. Neil Roodyn, with the assistance of Loke Uei Tan from the Windows Mobile group.

Windows Mobile Code Gallery Samples

Template Code: DirectShow Application and Filters
This distribution contains template code for DirectShow source, transform and sink filters. It also contains a simple DirectShow applicaton which connects the filters into a graph and runs the graph.

Note that while building and running the filters and application directly from this distribution will work, it will not do anything interesting. Again this is template code, designed to abstract away the details of the DirectShow filter framework so developers can focus on adding the core functionality to their filters.
DirectShow MPEG-2 Demultiplexer Filter for Windows CE
The MPEG-2 Demultiplexer ("demux") filter demultiplexes MPEG-2 transport and program streams that are delivered in push-mode. It also supports program streams in pull mode (file playback).
Windows Mobile Globalization in Visual Studio
Demonstrates a technique for using Visual Studio Multi-Language Windows Forms in Windows Mobile projects. Demonstrates a trick to override the behavior of ComponentResourceManager using namespaces aliases so that InitializeComponent() generated code will use a culture of your choice. Also demonstrates how to reload a form without closing it using a different culture from a menu item.
Simple DirectShow Player for Windows Mobile
SimplePlayer is a sample DirectShow based Media Player for Windows Mobile 5 and 6.
