How to: View Import and Export Status of a Database (Azure SQL Database)

Updated: July 9, 2012

You can use the Import Export Request Status window to track the progress of long-running database export and import operations on Microsoft Azure SQL Database servers. The window also reports the success or failure of completed operations.

Database Import and Export Status

Database imports and exports are asynchronous operations that can run for a long time. You can use the Import Export Request Status window to track which operations are still running on a Azure SQL Database server, and whether completed operations were successful.

How to view the status of requests

  1. Log on to the Azure Platform Management Portal.

  2. Select the subscription and server in the navigation pane.

  3. On the ribbon, click Status. This will open the Import Export Request Status window.

  4. Verify that the Server box lists the server from which you want to view the status of export and import requests.

  5. In the Login and Password boxes, type the credentials to be used for the report.

  6. Click Next to run the report, or Cancel to close the window without generating a report.

  7. The Import Export Request Status then displays a summary of the status of export and import operations for the specified server, using these columns:

    • Database – lists the database that was the source of an export or created by an import.

    • Type – lists whether the operation was an Export or an Import.

    • State – lists one of three values: Running for an operation that is still in progress, Completed for an operation that ended successfully, and Failed for an operation that ended with an error.

    • Last Update – lists the last time at which this status entry was updated. For a Completed or Failed entry, it is the time the completion or failure was recorded.

    • Request ID – a GUID that uniquely identifies the operation.

    • Error – lists the error message returned by a Failed operation.

  8. Click Refresh to update the data in the report, or Cancel to close the window.
