How to: Install the Visual Studio Image Library

The Visual Studio 2010 Image Library contains application images that appear in Microsoft Windows, the Office system, Microsoft Visual Studio, and other Microsoft software. You can use this set of over 1,000 images to create applications that look visually consistent with Microsoft software.

The image library includes three main categories of images: animations, bitmaps, and icons. A readme file, *readme.htm, is included for each major area. These readme files include information about how to use these images appropriately in your applications.

The Visual Studio Image Library is installed on your computer together with Visual Studio. To access the files in the image library, you must extract them from VS2010ImageLibrary.zip.

To install the Visual Studio 2010 Image Library

  1. Locate VS2010ImageLibrary.zip. This file is typically installed in … \Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\VS2010ImageLibrary\1033\.

  2. Right-click VS2010ImageLibrary.zip, click Extract All, and then follow the directions to extract the images.

Official licence statement from Visual Studio Team Blog
Hi there,
the visual studio teams has written about the licence terms: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/visualstudio/archive/2010/03/29/tips-and-tricks-visual-studio-2010-image-library.aspx
1.) You can use it in commercial projects too
2.) And what is a little bit strange, you must use them in their original intended purpose, whatever this means...
Example: An arrow image can only be used for nagivation and so on
3.) With VS Express 2010 it is not available

Licensing of Image Library?
I am wondering if anybody knows what the proper "licensing" on these icons is.  Do developers have to include any disclaimers/attributions or are they freely re-distributable?
What if I use the Copy icon for the Paste command?  Are there any measures applicable agains me or is this just common courtesy / good manners / standard adherence?
