Starting with Windows Vista, the
Performance Monitoring provider is not available. Data from performance libraries is available as WMI Performance Counter Classes through the WMIPerfClass Provider and WMIPerfInst Provider.
Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows NT 4.0: The use of this provider in Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP is not recommended. Instead, use the preinstalled Performance Counter Classes. For more information, see Monitoring Performance Data.
This provider returns the same data seen in System Monitor to management applications. However, it is not a high-performance provider and lacks the speed and newer capabilities available through high-performance providers.
The operating system does not automatically install the Performance Monitoring provider. To access system performance data using this provider, you must first register it. When registered, you must also create classes and instances to receive the information from the provider to WMI.
For more information, see Registering the Performance Monitoring Provider and Defining a Class for the Performance Monitoring Provider.
