Brief

Web Services specifications are built upon the bedrock of the various XML specifications described below.

Specifications

XML Specifications

Extensible Markup Language (XML) 1.0

Extensible Markup Language, abbreviated XML, describes a class of data objects called XML documents and partially describes the behavior of computer programs that process them.

Namespaces in XML

XML namespaces provide a simple method for qualifying element and attribute names used in Extensible Markup Language (XML) documents by associating them with namespaces identified by URI references.

XML Information Set

This specification defines an abstract data set called the XML Information Set (Infoset). Its purpose is to provide a consistent set of definitions for use in other specifications that need to refer to the information in a well-formed XML document.

Status

These specifications are part of the stable Internet infrastructure on which all Web services are based.
