This topic describes Azure Media Services related tasks that can be accomplished by using the Azure Management Portal.

Specifying the Number of Reserved Units
Manage Media Services Account
To start working with Azure Media Services, you must first configure your Azure account for Media Services. You can create multiple Media Services accounts on your Azure subscription. To create a Media Services account, click Quick Create in the Management Portal. Then, specify the required options: name, region, and a storage account that you want to associate with your Media Services account. For more information see How to Create a Media Services Account.
When you delete a Media Services account, all Media Services metadata records are deleted along with your account. Deleting the Media Services account does not delete the associated storage account or the blob data.
When accessing your Media Services account programmatically, you must supply your Media Services account name and either your primary or secondary access key. They correspond to your client name and secret (password), respectively. Use Manage Keys to view and regenerate your primary and secondary Media Services access keys and to also synchronize any new storage account keys with your Media Services account. For more information, see Connecting to Media Services with the Media Services SDK.
On the Dashboard page you can view the Media Services account information and usage metrics. You can also monitor the number of queued encoding jobs as well as failed, queued, and active tasks for encoding jobs. You can choose to monitor your data for the last 6 hours, 24 hours, or 7 days. Note, to start monitoring data you must first configure storage monitoring for your Media Services account.

The Content page enables you to perform the following tasks: upload new content, encode content, play content video, publish/unpublish content, and delete content. For more information, see How to Manage Content in Media Services.
|Currently, the portal does not support all the encoding formats that are supported by the Media Encoder. It also does not support media asset encryption\decryption. You can perform these tasks programmatically, for more information see Building Applications with the Media Services SDK for .NET and Task Preset Strings for Azure Media Encoder.|
Track Job Progress
On the Jobs page, you can track job progress. You can filter by status, date, and job ID to only view jobs that are of interest to you.
Scale a Media Service
On the Scale page of the Azure Management Portal, you can specify the number of Encoding Reserved Units and On-Demand Streaming Reserved Units that you would like your account to be provisioned with.
On-Demand Streaming Reserved Units
On-Demand Streaming reserved units provide you with both dedicated egress capacity that can be purchased in increments of 200 Mbps and additional functionality which currently includes dynamic packaging. By default, on-demand streaming is configured in a shared-instance model for which server resources (for example, compute, egress capacity, etc.) are shared with all other users. To improve on-demand streaming throughput, it is recommended to purchase On-Demand Streaming reserved units.
The allocation of any new units of on-demand streaming takes around 20 minutes to complete.
|Currently, going from any positive value of on-demand streaming units back to 0, can disable on-demand streaming for up to an hour.|
Encoding Reserved Units
The number of provisioned encoding reserved units is equal to the number of media tasks that can be processed concurrently in a given account. For example, if your account has 5 reserved units, then 5 media tasks will be running concurrently as long as there are tasks to be processed. The remaining tasks will wait in the queue and will get picked up for processing sequentially as soon as a running task finishes. If an account does not have any reserved units provisioned, then tasks will be picked up sequentially. In this case, the wait time between one task finishing and the next one starting will depend on the availability of resources in the system.
The new encoding reserved units are allocated almost immediately.

Requesting Additional Reserved Units
By default every Media Services account can scale to up to 25 Encoding and 5 On-Demand Streaming Reserved Units. You can request a higher limit by opening a support ticket. To open a support ticket do the following:
Click Get Support. If you are not logged in, you will be prompted to enter your credentials.
Select your subscription.
Under support type, select "Technical".
Click on "Create Ticket".
Select "Azure Media Services" in the product list presented on the next page.
Select "Media Processing" as "Problem type" and then select "Reservation Units" under category.
Follow instructions on next page and then enter details about how many Encoding or On-Demand Streaming reserved units you need.
Click submit to open the ticket.
