Access a Report Server by Using a URL (Windows Azure SQL Reporting)

ImportantImportant
SQL Reporting will discontinue service on October 31, 2014. See this FAQ for details. For reporting on Windows Azure, visit Virtual Machines on WindowsAzure.com.

You can access the report server directly by using a fully qualified web service URL and then navigate the folder hierarchy on SQL Reporting to locate the report that you want. Alternatively, you can use URL access syntax to render the reports in the default HTML format or include a command to render the report in a different format such as the Excel or PDF file formats.

For more information about using parameters in the report URL to configure the look and feel of your reports, see URL Access Parameter Reference. For information about passing report parameters in the report URL, see Pass a Report Parameter Within a URL.

noteNote
You cannot export reports to data feeds in SQL Reporting.

For information about running a report from the Windows Azure management portal, see Run a Report (Windows Azure SQL Reporting).

To access and run a report

  1. Open a browser and enter the URL of the report server in your browser. For example: https://kxlkryl576.reporting.windows.net/ReportServer.

In this example, kxlkryl576 is the report server name. The format of the URL is https://<ServerName>.reporting.windows.net/ReportServer.

  2. If the Windows Azure SQL Reporting login page opens, enter your report server credentials and click Sign in.

  3. Click through the folder hierarchy to the folder that contains the report, and then click the report name.

Depending on the type of credentials the report uses, you might be prompted for a user name and password to access the report data source.

For more information, see Finding and Viewing Reports with a Browser.

To run the report by including the Render command

  1. Open a browser and enter the fully qualified URL to the report server, including the name of the report and the Render command. For example: https://kxlkryl576.reporting.windows.net/ReportServer/Pages/ReportViewer.aspx?% Sales&rs:Command=Render.

In this example, kxlkryl576 is the report server name, Sales the report name, and Render the command.

  2. If the Windows Azure SQL Reporting login page opens, enter your report server credentials and click Sign in.

To display the report in different format by including the Format command

  1. Open a browser and enter the fully qualified URL to the report server, including the name of the report, the Render and Format commands. For example: https://kxlkryl576.reporting.windows.net/ReportServer/Pages/ReportViewer.aspx?% Sales&rs:Command=Render &rs:Format=PDF

In this example, kxlkryl576 is the report server name, Sales the report name, Render the command, and PDF the format.

  2. If the Windows Azure SQL Reporting login page opens, enter your report server credentials and click Sign in.

Use URL access syntax to render reports. For more information, see URL Access.
