The Windows Driver Kit (WDK, formerly the DDK) includes the tools and documentation you need to develop drivers. WDK 8 is integrated into Visual Studio and provides almost all of the tools you need for developing, building, packaging, testing, and debugging drivers.
You can use Windows Driver Kit 8 to develop drivers that run on Windows 8, Windows 7, and Windows Vista. It replaces previous versions of the WDK and Driver Development Kit (DDK).
You can use the Windows Driver Kit 7 to develop drivers that run on Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP.
