The Windows 7 DEK is designed to assist portable device manufacturers in the development of device firmware that is compatible with the protocols that Windows supports and the concept of device services that is being introduced in Windows 7. This release of the DEK is provided as two separate downloads: Windows 7 Portable Device Enabling Kit for MTP - Tools Windows 7 Portable Device Enabling Kit for MTP - Reference Code To compile the project files provided in the tools kit to run the Windows-based reference design, you must first install the reference code; the project files use the reference code to build the Windows-based design. The MTP Device Simulator and other development tools that ship in the tools kit have no dependencies on the reference code.
