USB Printing Solutions for Windows

Updated: August 19, 2004

USB printing support is included in Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows Millennium Edition (Windows Me), and Windows XP. This support is delivered through two files, Usbprint.sys and Usbmon.dll. Write your printer driver as outlined in the Windows DDK.

Important: Microsoft is extending redistribution rights and technical support for USBPrint until June 30, 2006, after which all redistribution rights expire and Microsoft will no longer support USBPrint in accordance with the Windows Desktop Product Life Cycle policies.

Notes:

  • Windows 2000, Windows Me, and Windows XP all contain Usbprint.sys and Usbmon.dll. However, these two files are customized for their respective operating system and do not offer cross-platform functionality; system files extracted from one operating system will not work with a different operating system.

  • Extracting and distributing these files violates any applicable EULA (End User License Agreement).
