We design Windows operating systems to perform well out of the box. However, many factors affect actual performance: firmware design, applications that load at system startup, memory and I/O components, and the built-in capabilities of system components such as graphics, storage, and networking devices.
To help system designers and manufacturers, we provide tools and information for the design and tuning of systems for best performance.
Windows Performance Analysis Toolkit (WPT)
WPT makes performance issues easy to diagnose and is included with the Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (ADK).
Windows Performance Recorder
This tool replaces Xperf and is used to extend Event Tracing for Windows (ETW) by capturing detailed system and application behavior and resource usage.
Windows Performance Analyzer
This is a powerful tool used to review aspects of performance on Windows. WPT opens event-trace log files and displays performance data in graphs and tables, so that you can easily see where to investigate potential issues.
Microsoft Performance Advisor for Windows
The Microsoft Server Performance Advisor (SPA) for Windows, version 3.0, provides IT administrators the right set of performance data to identify, compare, and diagnose potential server performance problems and bottlenecks. Microsoft SPA 3.0 is an update to the original SPA and can help you diagnose the root causes of performance problems in a Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, or newer deployment.
