Microsoft Windows Rally technologies include specifications and tools to enable simple and more secure configuration of wireless networks and provisioning of wireless hardware, such as:
Wireless access points, PCs, and servers
Network printers, printer bridges, digital still cameras, and game consoles
Digital media receivers, set-top boxes, electronic picture frames, and PDAs
Windows Rally technologies for device configuration include:
Windows Connect Now-NET - the Microsoft implementation of Wi-Fi Protected Setup™. Windows Vista SP2 and Windows 7 support Wi-Fi Protected Setup version 1.0. It enables the user to setup wireless routers and access points using either the PIN method or the push button method, and to setup Wi-Fi devices using the PIN method.
The specification for Windows Connect Now-NET is no longer available from Microsoft. We encourage partners that are interested in implementations of the Wi-Fi Protected Setup protocol to use the specifications that are available from the Wi-Fi Alliance.
Windows Connect Now-UFD - includes an API and an XML format that work with a wizard to support a USB Flash Drive-based method for configuring more secure wireless networks.
Windows Connect Now-MTP - Media Transport Protocol (MTP) Extensions that support more secure configuration of MTP-capable devices on wireless networks.
