Device Stage Additional Qualification

Device Stage Additional Qualification Overview

Device Stage is a new feature in Windows 7. With Device Stage, users can interact with any compatible device connected to their PC. They can see device status and run common tasks from a single window, simplifying the device management experience.

For supported device classes, a generic Device Stage experience is already built into Windows 7. The “baseline” experience shows the class of the connected device with a generic icon and provides a set of predefined tasks for that device class.

The Device Stage Additional Qualification (AQ) identifies products for which manufacturers have created custom Device Stage experiences optimized for a particular device. These custom experiences include branding of the Device Stage screen and the use of a photorealistic icon for the device, as well as custom tasks specific to the device’s capabilities, such as importing photos from a camera or synching contacts on a mobile phone.

Products that qualify for the Device Stage AQ present an opportunity for the device manufacturer to create a custom experience.

The following devices may qualify for the Device Stage AQ:

  • Printers and multifunction print devices
  • Portable media players
  • Digital still cameras
  • Mobile phones
  • Keyboards and mice
  • Webcams
  • Personal computers (PCs)

To qualify for the Device Stage AQ, review the Device Stage Additional Qualification Requirements.
