Multilingual App Toolkit for Visual Studio 2012

This extension for Visual Studio 2012 helps you localize your Windows Store and Windows Phone apps with translation support, translation file management, and editor tools.

Multilingual App Toolkit for Visual Studio 2012 is an extension that enables translation support through tools and guides by focusing on the following areas:

With Integration with Visual Studio IDE, you can add and manage translation files to a project solution and manage them using standard Visual Studio menus and dialogs.

Pseudo language engine gives you ‘in house’ testing of localized apps by identifying translation issues during development such as hardcoded, concatenated, or truncated strings and other visual issues that arise when working with languages. Pseudo translations are stored in the localization industry standard XLIFF file format and can be edited just like any other language translation.  This gives you granular control over pseudo translation testing.

Translation file export & import roundtrip functionality allows you to send and receive resources in XLIFF files to friends, family, or a translator services for review.

Use the dedicated localization editor for easily editing translated strings. Get translation suggestions quickly by using the integrated Microsoft Translator (requires active Internet connection). It also allows you to quickly edit data stored in XLIFF files by adjusting pseudo and/or actual translations.

Installation requirements

• Supported Operating Systems: Windows 8 32-bit or 64-bit editions*
• Required Software: Visual Studio Professional 2012 or greater, Visual Studio Express 2012 for Windows 8, or Visual Studio Express 2012 for Windows Phone**
• Disk Space Requirements: 10 MB (x86), 10 MB (x64)

*The Windows Phone SDK 8.0 requires 64-bit client versions of Windows 8.

**Visual Studio 2012 is required only for add-in functionality. The Multilingual App Editor also works with Windows 7 32-bit or 64-bit editions and does not require Visual Studio 2012.

Supported platforms

• Windows 8 32-bit or 64-bit editions
• Windows Phone SDK 8.0

Instructions

1. Important: Make sure you have the latest service pack and critical updates for the versions of Windows and Visual Studio you are running. To find recent security updates, visit Windows Update.
2. Click the Download button on this page to start the download of the self-installable package.
3. Do one of the following:
   • To start the installation immediately, click Run.
   • To save the download to your computer for installation at a later time, click Save.
   • To cancel the installation, click Cancel.

Additional information

To use Microsoft Translator functionality available in the standalone editor, you must have an active Internet connection.
