Language and the .NET FrameworkTwo stars united on screen! See some of the language changes in Visual Basic .NET and how to take advantage of .NET Framework features like inheritance, message queues and event logs. Problems playing videos? |
| Avoid Memory Leaks This presentation shows how to avoid memory leaks when interacting with the .NET Framework.
| | Console Applications In the past, there was not a good mechanism for creating console (that is, command line) applications using Visual Basic. This video shows how Visual Basic .NET makes this process simple and straightforward.
| | Event Logs This video introduces how to use the Windows event log component and EventLog class, and how easy it is to read and write event log entries from a Visual Basic .NET application.
| | Global Error Handling This video shows how to implement global error handling in Windows Forms application development and how it makes dealing with untrapped errors in Visual Basic .NET much easier than in previous versions.
| | Language Improvements In this video, you’ll learn some of the new language features in Visual Basic and see how they can be used to rapidly access data, create multithread applications, and create fully utilize the .NET Framework.
| | Performance Counters This video introduces using Performance Counters in Visual Basic .NET, illustrating how they make it easy to add performance monitoring capabilities to applications.
| | String Functions See how the string functions in the Visual Basic libraries provide a convenient path for developers transitioning from Visual Basic 6.0 to Visual Basic .NET
| | Visual Inheritance This video demonstrates the benefits of the true object-oriented nature of Visual Basic.NET: fewer lines of code, improved maintainability, and improved flexibility for team management.
|
| | Collections Visual Basic has traditionally had only a single collection class. This video shows how Visual Basic .NET offers a number of collection classes that you can pick for the job at hand.
| | Delegates Delegates form the basis of events and callback methods in the .NET Framework. This video demonstrates how a private method of a Windows Form can be called from an external class using a delegate.
| | Exception Handling Visual Basic 6.0 provided error handling through On Error…Goto, which had a number of limitations. This video shows how to create Try...Catch blocks to do structured error handling in Visual Basic .NET.
| | Inheritance Inheritance is a key feature in Visual Basic .NET. Using inheritance, you can write simple and elegant code to solve many programming problems. In this video, you'll see how the FileTreeNode class inherits from TreeNode.
| | Message Queues This video introduces the MessageQueue class and how it makes building messaging applications in Visual Basic .NET much easier than in previous versions.
| | Smart Device Application Developing applications for smart devices is made is easier than ever because it uses the same programming model as desktop development. In this video, you'll see how to build an application for a PocketPC
| | Windows Services This video demonstrates how build and install a Windows Service application using Visual Basic .NET. The .NET Framework makes it much easier to create Windows Services than in previous versions of Visual Basic.
