The Microsoft Security Development Lifecycle (SDL) has significantly improved the security of Microsoft flagship products. With attacks increasingly shifting to the application layer, it is becoming more critical for application developers to adopt the SDL.

To help development organizations adopt the SDL and embed security and privacy into their software and development culture, Microsoft created the SDL Pro Network. The SDL Pro Network consists of training and consulting companies that specialize in application security and security training and have substantial experience and expertise with the methodology and technologies of the SDL.
The objectives of the SDL Pro Network
- Provide guidance and support to small and large development organizations in implementing the SDL into their environments and protecting their customers.
- Give feedback on customer needs and implementation practices to continuously improve the SDL.

The SDL Pro Network, launched in November 2008, runs in pilot phase for the first year of operation. During this time, Microsoft and the additional member companies will evaluate how to best expand the program to others in the industry.
