What is "Oslo"?

"Oslo" is the code name for a set of future Microsoft modeling technologies that provide significant productivity gains across the lifecycle of .NET applications by enabling developers, architects, and IT professionals to work together more effectively. The components that make this possible include:

• A language, "M", for authoring domains textually
• A visual tool, "Quadrant", for viewing and editing data in ways that make sense for a domain
• A repository for managing domain models across the enterprise
• A library of pre-built domain models and languages, including CLR, UML, and Identity

"M" allows users to write down how they want to structure and query their data using a convenient textual syntax that can be both authored and read. It also support rapid development of new domain-specific languages based on concise grammar definitions that drive the M compiler.
