MSDN and TechNet Library Machine Translation Pilot for SharePoint Products and Technologies

The Office Team is glad to announce our participation in the MSDN and TechNet Library Machine Translation Pilot for SharePoint Products and Technologies.

The MSDN and TechNet Libraries are major resources for developers and IT professionals around the world who use Microsoft tools, products, and technologies. Both libraries contain a bounty of technical information. This includes sample code, documentation, technical articles, and reference guides. In order to provide content to all developers, regardless of locale, we are piloting a test of machine-translating our MSDN and TechNet Library content.

Infrastructure and Technology

This pilot will make use of two new Web presentation technologies: bilingual side-by-side display and translation Wiki.

Bilingual side-by-side display allows users to see English and translated content side by side on the page. It has just been released as a feature in Windows Live Translator for translation and display of entire Web pages. Our pilot will use a version of this technology optimized for MSDN and TechNet content.

Translation Wiki functionality, which allows authorized users to directly edit machine translated content and other users to make suggestions for translation improvements, was first released as part of the Brazilian MSDN translation Wiki for Visual Studio 2005. Office will be only the second user of this technology.



Pilot Content Assets

The MSDN and TechNet Library Machine Translation Pilot for SharePoint Products and Technologies includes the following content assets:

  1. MSDN content: MSDN Labs - content translation Wiki for MSDN: This lab includes the Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 SDK and the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 SDK.
  2. TechNet content: MSDN Labs - side-by-side viewer for TechNet: This lab includes the Office SharePoint Server 2007 TechNet content.



Pilot Languages

All pilot content is provided in two pilot languages:

  1. Spanish (es-es)
  2. Brazilian Portuguese (pt-br)
