Creating a New SQL Server Database in Server Explorer

You can create a new SQL Server database using Server Explorer. A new database in Server Explorer will contain folders for database diagrams, tables, views, stored procedures, and functions. You can then develop the database structure by using the Visual Database Tools.

Note   You cannot create a new Oracle database in Server Explorer.

To create a new SQL Server database

  1. Right-click the Data Connections node and choose Create New SQL Server Database.

The Create Database dialog box appears.

  2. Enter the server name where the database will be located.
  3. Enter the name of the new database.
  4. Select either Use Windows NT Authentication or Use SQL Server Authentication.

For more information on SQL Server database access authentication, see "Authentication Modes" in SQL Server Books Online.

  5. Click OK.

The new SQL Server database appears in Server Explorer.

Note   You must have adequate SQL Server permissions to create a new database. For more information, see "Permissions" in SQL Server Books Online.
