Modifying Project Properties and Configuration Settings

You can view or modify properties associated with your projects in either the Properties window or the Project Property Pages dialog box. The project type determines where the property appears in Visual Studio .NET.

To view project properties

  1. In Solution Explorer, select a project.
  2. Open the Properties window.
  3. Modify the properties you want to change.

If you want to modify properties that are specific to a configuration, you need to open the property pages. These pages generally contain the properties that apply to the entire project and those that are specific to a selected configuration. Project properties that apply to the entire project and not a specific configuration are read-only on these pages.

To view configuration settings

  1. In Solution Explorer, select a project.
  2. On the Project menu, choose Configuration Settings.
  3. In the Project Properties dialog box, select the configuration and platform you want to view or modify.

When present in the Project Property Pages dialog box, the Configuration Settings folder contains more specific, configuration-related Property pages and the Properties folder contains broader, configuration-independent Property pages.

Tip   Properties that are specific to a configuration allow you to change the Configuration and Platform.
