Using Windows Azure Connect to Create Virtual Networks
The Windows Azure SDK provides the ability to create a secure IP-level network between roles running in Windows Azure and machines running outside Windows Azure. For more information on using virtual networks in Windows Azure see
To enable Windows Azure Connect using Visual Studio
Set up a working published project using the instructions in Getting Started with the Windows Azure Tools for Visual Studio.
Login to the Windows Azure Management Portal and chose Virtual Network from the left hand menu. If you haven’t enabled Windows Azure Connect, the Management Portal will prompt you with the Enable Windows Azure Connect dialog box. Click yes.
Click Get Activation Token button. A dialog displaying the activation token along with explanation is displayed.
Copy the activation token to clipboard.
In Visual Studio, right-click the role that you want to use with Windows Azure Connect.
Check the Activate Windows Azure Connect checkbox.
Paste the activation token into the text box in Visual Studio.
Visual Studio adds Windows Azure Connect settings to the project’s .cscfg file.
Re-publish your project using the instructions in Getting Started with the Windows Azure Tools for Visual Studio
When your application is in the running state, you will see your Windows Azure Roles and machine instances when you click the Virtual Network tab in the Management Portal.
Install the Windows Azure Connect agent on any machine that should be part of the virtual network using the process in How to Install Local Endpoints with Windows Azure Connect .
Group the endpoints to allow them to communicate on the same virtual network. For more information, see How to Create and Configure a Group of Endpoints in Windows Azure Connect.
Your virtual network setup is now complete. Your Windows Azure role or roles should now have IP connection to other computers running the Windows Azure Connect software according to how you grouped and connected them.
