New for Print Drivers

In Windows 8, the print driver has been redesigned to improve print performance and to provide support for OpenXPS. The new print driver is based on the v4 print driver model and one of its new features is a Windows-provided print class driver.

To help to achieve this redesign, new interfaces and enumerated values have been added to the v4 print driver model. Additionally, new interfaces, structures, and enumerated values have also been added to the set of programming interfaces for developers of Windows Store apps that are print-capable.

New components for v4 print drivers

New interfaces and enumerated values have been added for use by v4 print driver developers. For more information about these components, see V4 Print Driver Interfaces and Enumerations.

New components in the v4 print APIs

Developers of Windows Store apps that are print-capable, now have new APIs to work with. For more information about these components, see the documentation for the following namespaces:

Windows.Devices.Printers.Extensions

Windows.Graphics.Printing
