About This DownloadNetwork Explorer is the place in the Windows Vista operating system for users to discover and use all of the network resources, including networked devices and computers in the local area network (LAN). From Network Explorer, users can see device-specific icons and properties and can invoke device-specific actions. For devices that adhere to the Plug and Play Extensions (PnP X) specifications, the user can install the device. In this context, installation is effectively the same as Plug and Play installation of devices that are physically connected to the machine. This paper describes how a networked device can be associated with the computer so that, when the device is first discovered on the network, it is automatically installed without the user being required to find the device and perform the right-click install action. This paper provides information about how to implement the required code to associate a PnP X network-connected device programmatically even before the device is discoverable over the supported network protocols. This paper is intended for device manufacturers of network-connected devices. This information applies to the Windows Vista operating system. Included in this paper:
