About This Download

This paper provides information about audio drivers for the Microsoft Windows family of operating systems. It presents guidelines that audio device and system vendors can follow to provide hardware and software support for home theater speaker configurations and multichannel audio stream formats. Beginning with Service Pack 2 for Windows XP and in Service Pack 1 for Windows Server 2003, the Windows multimedia control panel provides support for a new 7.1-channel stream format for home theater systems.
