New for System Devices

The Windows Driver Kit (WDK) that is released with Windows 7 includes enhancements or additions to the following system device technologies:

Power Metering and Budgeting

Beginning with Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, the operating system supports the Power Metering and Budgeting (PMB) infrastructure. This infrastructure promotes energy efficiency on systems by providing power consumption and management features, as well as additional configuration options for power metering and budgeting. System manufacturers, IT professionals, and end-users can use the PMB infrastructure to tune their systems to balance power versus performance for their needs.

For more information, see Power Metering and Budgeting.

Windows Hardware Error Architecture

For Windows 7, the Windows Hardware Error Architecture (WHEA) supports new features that are described in WHEA Changes for Windows 7.
