Version 2 Serial Framework Extension (SerCx2) Reference

This section contains reference information about the device driver interface (DDI) of version 2 of the serial framework extension (SerCx2). Starting with Windows 8.1, a serial controller driver uses this DDI to communicate with SerCx2. SerCx2 replaces version 1 of the serial framework extension (SerCx), which was introduced in Windows 8.

Note  New drivers that are intended to run only in Windows 8.1 and later versions of Windows should be written to use the SerCx2 DDI instead of the SerCx DDI. However, Windows 8.1 and later versions of Windows will continue to support existing serial controller drivers that use the SerCx DDI.

For more information, see Serial Controller Drivers Overview.

TopicDescription

SerCx2 Object Handles

This section describes object handle types that are specifically defined for version 2 of the serial framework extension (SerCx2). The SerCx2 device driver interface (DDI) uses these handle types to refer to objects that have features and capabilities that are specific to SerCx2.

SerCx2 Event Callback Functions

This section describes the event callback functions that are defined for version 2 of the serial framework extension (SerCx2). These functions are implemented by your serial controller driver. SerCx2 calls these functions to communicate with the serial controller driver.

SerCx2 Structures and Enumerations

This section describes the structures and enumerations that are defined for version 2 of the serial framework extension (SerCx2). These structures and enumerations are used by the methods, event callback functions, and initialization functions in the SerCx2 device driver interface (DDI).

Initialization Functions for SerCx2 Structures

This section describes the functions that initialize the structures that are defined for version 2 of the serial framework extension (SerCx2). Your serial controller driver calls these initialization functions to set the members of these structures to their default values.

SerCx2 Driver Support Methods

This section describes the driver support methods that are defined by version 2 of the serial framework extension (SerCx2). These methods are implemented by the SerCx2 run-time module, Sercx2.sys. Your serial controller driver calls these methods to communicate with SerCx2.
