Test your desktop app with the Windows App Certification Kit

Before you can list your desktop app in the Windows Store, you are required to test it with the Windows App Certification Kit and upload the results to the Hardware or Desktop developer portal for certification.

Review the Certification requirements for Windows 8.1 desktop apps, and the SDK, so that you can begin testing with the kit and then submit the results to Microsoft. You are required to upload the results of the kit before you can list your app in the Windows Store.

To sign in to the Hardware or Desktop developer portal, or to create an account on this portal, complete the following steps:

  1. Go to the Hardware or Desktop developer portal to get started.

  2. After you have uploaded the results of the Windows App Certification Kit to the Hardware or Desktop developer portal, your app will be approved based on the kit results.

  3. You will not receive email confirmation from Microsoft. To find out whether your app has been approved, sign in to the Hardware or Desktop developer portal.

  4. Once your app has been certified using the Hardware or Desktop developer portal, you can list your app in the Windows Store, via the Windows Store dashboard.
