Removing apps

Applies to Windows only

You can remove your app’s listing from the Windows Store at any time (except when the app is in the certification process).

Here's what happens when you remove your app's listing:

  • People who don’t have your app can’t download it, or even find its listing in the Store. (If they follow a direct link to your app, such as from a website, they'll see the listing for your app, but they won't be able to get it.)
  • People who have already installed your app can still use it or even reinstall it. However, they won't be able to make in-app purchases.

  2. Access the Details page for the app.
  3. Under Manage availability, click Remove this app's listing.

If you’ve removed a listing and then want to restore it, you follow a similar process.

  1. Navigate to your Dashboard.
  2. Access the Details page for the app.
  3. Under Manage availability, click Restore this app's listing.

Note  It may take some time before the listing appears in the Store again.

If you have added Windows 8.1 packages to an app that you originally built for Windows 8, and you no longer wish to support the app for Windows 8 customers, you can remove only the Windows 8 listing. When you do this, new customers will only be able to acquire your app if they are running Windows 8.1. As noted above, existing Windows 8 customers will still be able to use and reinstall the app, and they’ll continue to receive any updates you submit for your Windows 8 packages. See Submitting an app update for more info.
