Providing info to certification testers

As you submit your app, you have the option to use the Notes to Testers step to provide additional info to the certification testers. This info can help ensure that your app is tested correctly.

Examples of info that can help the testers include:

  • User names and passwords to test accounts

If your app must log in to a service, provide the user name and password to a test account.

  • Access to hidden or locked features

If your app has features that might not be obvious to the testers, briefly describe how they can access those features. Apps that appear to be incomplete will fail certification.

When considering what to write, remember:

  • A real person will read these notes and will appreciate a polite note and helpful instructions.

  • You have 500 characters

Be succinct, polite, and keep your instructions simple. If you really need to explain more, include a link to a page with more info. At the same time, don't forget the part about keeping your instructions simple. If you need to provide a lot of complicated instructions to test your app, consider simplifying your app.

  • Make sure that any service or external component is online and available

If your app connects to a service for part of its function, make sure that the service is online and available when we test your app, which will be before the date you select your app to be listed in the Windows Store. If your app can't connect to a service it needs during testing, it will fail certification.
