Help Filters for Visual Studio
Visual Studio product documentation includes several predefined filters that help you scope the items that appear in Contents and Index windows. These filters do not affect Search. You can change your current filter from the Filtered by drop-down list found on the Contents window and Index window of Help.
Contents and Index Filters
Visual Studio includes pre-defined filters for use in the Contents and Index windows. These filters do not affect Search.
Product and Technology Filters
The following filters are available in the MSDN Library for the Contents and Index windows.

| .NET Framework | Includes the core documentation for the .NET Framework SDK and language references but excludes information specific to development in the Visual Studio development environment. |
| Enterprise Servers | Includes Exchange Server, Biztalk Server, Commerce Server, and SQL Server documentation, among others. |
| Office Development | Includes the core documentation for Visual Studio Tools for the Microsoft Office System, plus the Visual Basic, Visual C#, and the .NET Framework SDK documentation sets, among others. |
| Platform SDK | Includes documentation on IIS, COM, DirectX, ADO, MSDE, DHTML, XML, Microsoft Management Console, OLE DB, Win32 API, and a variety of other system-level technologies. |
| Smart Device Development | Includes the core documentation for the subset of the .NET Framework SDK available in the .NET Compact Framework, plus topics about Visual Studio, Visual Basic, Visual C#, Visual C++, ATL, and MFC that relate to Smart Device Development, among others. |
| Team Explorer | Includes the core Visual Studio Team System documentation plus Microsoft Document Explorer Help. |
| Visual Basic | Designed for developers coding Windows applications or Web applications with Visual Basic. The core .NET Framework SDK, ASP.NET, Visual Web Developer, and Win32 and COM documentation sets are included, among others. Does not include topics in MSDN that apply to previous versions of Visual Basic. |
| Visual C# | Designed for developers coding Windows applications or Web applications in C#. The core .NET Framework SDK, Dynamic HTML, ASP.NET, Visual Web Developer, and XML documentation sets are included, among others. |
| Visual C++ | Includes the core Visual C++ documentation, the Platform SDK documentation, and the .NET Framework documentation, among others. Does not include C# material. |
| Visual J# | Designed for developers coding Windows applications or Web applications in J#. The core .NET Framework SDK, Visual Web Developer, ASP.NET, and Dynamic HTML documentation sets are included, among others. |
| Visual Studio Team System | Includes the core Visual Studio Team System documentation plus general Visual Studio documentation, the core .NET Framework SDK, select Web development documentation, and SQL Server documentation, among others. |
| Web Development (.NET) | Includes the core Visual Web Developer documentation plus the ASP.NET, HTML, CSS, Dynamic HTML, and the .NET Framework documentation sets, among others. |
| Windows Forms Development | Includes the core documentation for Windows Forms, data, debugging, and compiler documentation for Visual Basic, Visual C#, Visual J#, and Visual C++, among others. |
Express Edition Filters
The following filters are available for Contents and Index only if you have installed the MSDN Express Library.

Community Search Filters
The filters listed below are accessed by clicking the Community menu, and then clicking Community Search. These filters do not affect the filters for the Contents and Index windows.
