FileVersionInfo.OriginalFilename Property

Gets the name the file was created with.

Namespace:  System.Diagnostics
Assembly:  System (in System.dll)

public string OriginalFilename { get; }

Property Value

Type: System.String
The name the file was created with or null if the file did not contain version information.

This property enables an application to determine whether a file has been renamed.

The following example calls GetVersionInfo to get the FileVersionInfo for the Notepad. Then it prints the OriginalFilename in a text box. This code assumes textBox1 has been instantiated.

private void GetOriginalName()
{
    // Get the file version for the notepad.
    FileVersionInfo myFileVersionInfo =
        FileVersionInfo.GetVersionInfo(Environment.SystemDirectory + "\\Notepad.exe");

    // Print the original file name.
    textBox1.Text = "Original file name: " + myFileVersionInfo.OriginalFilename;
}
